Kookaburra season dates: 10 April – 19 May 2007, Sydney Theatre
Awards: Nominated for three Helpmann Awards
Pippin tells the story of the young prince Pippin who longs to discover the secret of true happiness and fulfilment. His quest takes him to the glories of the battlefield, the temptations of the flesh and the intrigues of political power.
This hip, tongue-in-cheek and timeless fairy tale was Kookaburra’s inaugural musical and truly captivated the audience.
The energetic pop-influenced score by three-time Oscar-winning composer/lyricist Stephen Schwartz, whose many other hits include Godspell, Wicked and the animated films Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and The Prince of Egypt, bursts with one show stopping number after another, from soaring ballads including “Corner of the Sky“ to infectious dance numbers like “Magic To Do”.

Stephen Sondheim's honest, witty and sophisticated look at love sex and marriage in the city that never sleeps.
The clashing sounds and pulsing rhythms of New York City underscore this landmark show, considered by many to have inaugurated the modern era of musical theatre by being the first musical to deal with adult relationships through its music.
Company is the classic musical set in New York about Bobby, a single man celebrating his 35th birthday, and the five married couples who are his best friends. Among the memorable and energetic songs in the show are 'The Little Things You Do Together', 'Another Hundred People', 'The Ladies Who Lunch', and the hit musical theatre anthem 'Being Alive'.

In 2007 Kookaburra achieved what no other organisation has been able to achieve in Australia for 30 years – we bought Stephen Sondheim to Australia!
Stephen Sondheim, one of the most influential and accomplished composer / lyricists in Broadway history, was the guest of honour at the opening of Kookaburra's production of Company. Kookaburra also hosted An Audience With Sondheim at the Theatre Royal,
Friday 6 July.
The sell out audience saw Sondheim interviewed about his life and career and were treated to a selection of Sondheim’s work performed by some of Australia’s leading musical theatre talent, including Geraldine Turner, Peter Coleman-Wright and the cast of Company.
The event was produced and broadcast in association with the Bio Channel, Foxtel and Sunday Arts, ABC.
A DVD of the 2007 Broadway version of Company is being released internationally and Kookaburra’s An Audience With Sondheim is being included as a DVD extra.
